To create a Horcrux, one is required to make a sacrifice (which is commiting the act of murder), and cast part of the soul of the murdered person into an object. It was revealed that there are seven (animate and inanimate objects) created throughout the Harry Potter series.
List of Horcruxes In Harry Potter
Tom Riddle’s Diary – The first Horcrux that was destroyed during the second installment, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. It was destroyed using the Basilisks’s tooth (fang) which Harry Potter killed.
Marvolo Gaunt’s Ring – It was revealed in the last movie, “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2” that Albus Dumbledore wore this ring and was affected by the curse made on it. The ring also contained one of the deathly hallows, the ressurection stone. It was destroyed using the sword of Gryffindor. This is the first Horcrux created by Tom Riddle.
Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup – Also revealed on Deathly Hallows Part 2, hidden inside Bellatrix Lestrange’s chamber (the crazy woman who killed Sirius Black). They needed the help of another Goblin to steal it and had to go escape the room where cups multiplied (probably with the attempt of suffocating the intruder). It was destroyed by Hermione Granger using the Basilisk’s fang.
Salazar Slytherin’s Locket – A locket (pendant) that came into the possession of Dolores Umbridge, one of the members of the ministry of magic (she wears all pink). Harry together with his friends stole the locket but could not destroy it immediately. Ron Weasley wore the ring for sometime which eventually lead him into a change in attitude and jealousy towards Harry Potter and Hermione. It was later destroyed by Ron himself using the sword of Gryffindor which revealed itself to Harry at a very unexpected time.
Rowena Ravenclaw’s Diadem – A tiara (crown) of some sort, Harry had to speak to a ghost in order to reveal its location. In the end, it would be in a room where Harry had been before and apparently, he had some contact with the Tiara before as well.
Nagini – The snake that Valdemort takes with him all the time. It was killed by Neville Longbottom using the Godric Gryffindor sword.
Harry Potter – When Valdemort tried to kill Harry Potter but his curse rebounded. Rebounded means that when Harry was saved by his mother, one rule of using the spell Avada Kedavra was that the person who was saved becomes immune to killing spells made by the caster.
